Las Vegas, Nevada – Late last year, Johnie Tidwell, inspired by the words “build it and they will come,” a line from the 1989 movie “Field of Dreams, took these words to heart and created an Internet site showcasing artistic creations from independent animators and online comic creators called cartoonmogul.com. The underground site rapidly increased its links to hundreds of animated content resources on the net and logged in over 60,000 hits from animation fans around the world in a short period of six months. Now, besides gearing up for a Big Cartoon Exhibition Tour set to launch in Hollywood California, cartoonmogul.com is also developing a new television show scheduled to air this fall 2004 in Los Angeles.

Organizers for The Big Cartoon Exhibition, in conjunction with cartoonmogul.com, plan to give needed exposure to independent animation films and animation related documentaries by screening them with popular animated television programs. It comes as no surprise that several notable animators and animation companies are requesting to showcase their animation at the exhibition. “There are no major events in the United States that are internationally recognized to champion the art of animation, more specifically ‘indie animation;’ our intention and all our efforts are to make the exhibition and television show a hot spot for animation,” says Johnie Tidwell of cartoonmogul.com. Tidwell goes on to say that animation is evolving into a new entertainment art form comparable to the independent film movement of the late 80s, and shows no signs of slowing down. This independent animation movement is a result of new talent entering the field of animation by merely using personal comput!
ers, while professional animators are opting to independently produce their own animated films outside of the bureaucratic animation industry.

Cartoonmogul.com’s agenda is to establish Los Angeles as the home base for its international animation film festival, in conjunction with creating more exposure for animators, by giving them a voice, with the production of the television show. The Big Cartoon Exhibition will be a debut event for animators and animation fans to converge in one location comparable to the famous Sundance Film Festival established by Robert Redford, for independent filmmakers in Park City, Utah, which draws over 100,000 people yearly. Many of the animation films participating in the Big Cartoon Exhibition will also be showcased on the cartoon mogul television show.
