Book Premiere Party Brings Broad Appeal
New York, N.Y. Friends of Lulu and the Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art (MoCCA) will join forces June 6th, to spotlight female talent in the cartooning industry with the release of BROAD APPEAL, a new comics anthology.
The BROAD APPEAL Book Premiere Party will take place from 7 to 10 p.m. at MoCCA’s brand-new headquarters, located at 32 Union Square East, Suite 600. This celebration of women in comics will feature free food and drinks, a gallery exhibit of original art from the book, an art auction, a chance to win prizes, and the opportunity to meet with the book’s contributors.
The $6 suggested admission price includes a free copy of BROAD APPEAL, which features work from such cartooning luminaries as Ellen Forney (Monkey Food),Shaenon K. Garrity, [ Girlamatic.com ] Megan Kelso (Girlhero), Lela Lee, [ Angrylittlegirls.com ] Jen Sorenson (Slowpoke) and Sara Varon (Sweater Weather).
Produced by the New York chapter of Friends of Lulu, BROAD APPEAL is an anthology of illustrated stories that engagingly showcases the diversity of female artists writing and drawing comics today. From dramatic mystery and humorous fantasy to insightful narratives, this unique, spirited collection offers something for everyone.
BROAD APPEAL features entertaining interviews with women who proudly consider comics their day job, written by Comicon.com/Pulse reporter Jen Contino. Along with insight on their creative process, the featured cartoonists offer enjoyable anecdotes about what got them interested in comics, and list the comics they would recommend to new readers.
Jannie Ho, a graphic designer for Scholastic Books and Nickelodeon Magazine, designed the cover.
BROAD APPEAL will be a 6’ x 9’, 128-page perfect-bound graphic novel retailing for $9.95 and will be available in comic stores everywhere this August.
All of the party’s proceeds benefit Friends of Lulu and MoCCA.
